Generation “Y” // We Are More Than What We Are
June 28, 2016

by Carvens Marcel Lissaint

We are a numbed people

Veiled and disconnected

Masked and distant

Cloaked and distraught

Hidden and destructive

Breath exhaling from our core but death seeping from our hearts

Walking corpses

Greeting each other with fractured smiles and injured pulses

We have made graveyard home

A place for the non-living and empty

We are hollow and shattered from the center

Broken faith with misplaced value

Saturated perspective draining the life out of our existence

Veiled and disconnected

Seeking refuge in temporary treasures

Lost meaning in our eternal gold

Anchored to the foundations of nothingness

Masked and distant

Sprinting as fast as we can towards the finish line of deception

Truth concealed in a volt with no entrance

Isolated spirits fearful of discomfort and unfamiliar

Cloaked and distraught

Showered in insecurity

Burning with hate and injustice

Love lynched upon a tree of failure

Hidden and destructive

A vicious cycle rapture and confusion

We torture our hope by enslaving our imaginations

Stunting our growth by drowning our purpose in a seas of flames

What have we become?

We can be leader

We can be mountain shifted with prayer

We can be monument shouting to the blue of sky “I am here”

We can be the over comers

We are more than what we are

We were built to shift the paradigm

We were born to ignite the world into life

We were created to shake and rebuild

We were called to be chosen

We are more than what we are

We are bridge

We are soul

We are light

We are warrior

We are more than what we are

We are heaven waltzing to the tunes of our heartbeat

We are beauty flying in the skies of our dreams

We are happiness blossoming from the roots of our bravery

We are conviction shooting out the barrels of our strength

We are more than what we are

We are the body of humanity

We are the sight of aspiration

We are the brilliance of character

We are the actuality of authenticity

We are passion

We are realness

We are trueness

We are actuality
