When color and commodity meet love and disdain, this is the metamorphosis of Detourbutterfly. Detourbutterfly, also known as Nikki Saraiva, was born April 2, 1977 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  As a multifaceted artist, she engages her viewers through works of repurposed assemblages, paintings, bone art, jewelry, and photography. While her fascination for unique objects and curiosities give inspiration to her assemblage work, her life experiences build the framework of her art, which continues to weave itself in a variety of creative mediums. She may stretch herself across the map of creative thinking, but it's within that space where it all comes to life.

The spark that ignited the Nikki’s flame was when she decided to sell her retail business of 10 years. It was a huge decision for many reasons, one being it was all she had, and from the heart she had built it from the ground up. She sold everything and moved to another town where she started her fashion career as a wardrobe stylist. She spent the next five years working with numerous fashion teams in Miami and New York Fashion Week until she pulled away when the sense of fulfillment expired. Pressure began to grow between her life as a single mother of three boys and her life as a professional. She learned however, to depend on her creative impulses for therapeutic release. Through this she realized that only by taking up the responsible of the artist could she could have the freedom to be creative in all aspects of her life. In all her personal challenges and touch and go's, she gathered enough mental taste buds to know what she wanted.

She is now learning to embrace a more progressive approach to happiness while avoiding being trapped by dogma and its bow of launching creative blocks. An artist who wears her heart on her sleeve, she falls hard and rises high for all things she is passionate about, which all flow into her art. As a self taught artist, Detourbutterfly has earned multiple awards since she has introduced her art to the public in 2010. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and is on the rise.
